College Station, TX — Many Texas A&M fans have often opined about how brilliant it would be to see Christian Kirk and Johnny Manziel teaming up to take on opponents in the SEC.  Obviously, this was a scenario that wasn’t destined to come true until today when every Aggie’s pipe dream came to fruition in College Station where former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy recipient Johnny Manziel took part in the Aggies’ Pro Day on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Texas A&M confirmed Manziel’s participation on Monday after the Aggies’ latest practice, and the Aggie’s new head coach, Jimbo Fisher also shared his thoughts on Manziel’s return to College Station by saying that, Johnny Manziel and all former players are part of the Texas A&M family forever.

“He’s one of our guys. He won the Heisman Trophy, and what he is as a player here, and just doing a great job of his life right now, trying to get things in line. I have no problem with him coming here. Our school is great with it, and I’m great with it. I think it’s wonderful.” — Jimbo Fisher, Head Coach Texas A&M

College Station provides a perfect environment for the 25-year-old Manziel to boost the play of A&M’s rookie corps and show off his determination for a #ComebackSZN.  Manziel electrified Aggie fans in two seasons, where he engineered 20 legendary W’s and two memorable bowl game wins as well. Manziel surprised many fans and football aficionados by participating in the University of San Diego’s pro day last week

Mike Evans, Pro Bowler for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and one of Manziel’s favorite targets during their days at A&M made a surprise appearance at the Pro Day activities which were hosted at the McFerrin Indoor Practice Facility. (Evans is seen here entering the facility).

Mike Evans told Jon Machota NFL players still inquire frequently about Johnny Manziel:

“He’s a rock star, man. Everybody wants to know about Johnny. I tell them the truth. He’s one of my good friends. Awesome player. He’s getting his life back on track, so I’m happy for him.”

Mike Evans had lots of compliments for Manziel and Kirk.

An all-star cast of football icons and wildly talented rookies were in attendance at TAMU’s Pro Day. In addition to Evans, several other well-known Aggies were on hand including, Trevor Knight, Christian Kirk, Armani Watts, Myles Garrett, and Conner McQueen, prompting some fans to suggest an impromptu scrimmage!

In addition to Mike Evans, Jameis Winston put in an appearance as well.  Taylor Bisciotti (NFL Network Sideline Reporter for SEC Network & ESPNU) was on hand in College Station and captured a lot of the Pro Day highlights.

One of Taylor Bisciotti tweets shows TAMU WR Christian Kirk visiting with Mike Evans.

Kirk confirmed that he has private workouts scheduled with several NFL teams including the Cowboys, Panthers, and Seahawks.

Recent Aggie Alum, Myles Garrett is shown here putting in an appearance at the Pro Day festivities.

Taylor Bisciotti confirmed via her Twitter account that all 32 NFL teams were on hand as well as some CFL teams including the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders. 47 coaches and scouts were in attendance total.  Manziel can be in all black with black and white horizontally shaped shorts (several others are wearing these as well) with black tights and a black hoodie emblazoned with “Pro Day” in white on the front (which several other players sported also).

Jon Machota was also in attendance and shared several tweets from the day.  Machota covers Dallas Cowboys for  and is the co-host of  One of Machota’s tweets shows Manziel warming up by effortlessly nailing two of three passes on the crossbar of the goal.  Notice with the third pass, Manziel is also on the move.

In 2014, Manziel dazzled the attendees in full pads (the first to ever do so) and, his pro-day attendees included former U.S. President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara, custom-selected tunes by Drake.

Even though it wasn’t the media spectacle of Manziel’s first pro-day, there was still plenty of sizzle on hand.

Manziel passed to several of the rookie hopefuls — including wide receiver Christian Kirk. Johnny was on point and surely awed the assembled attendees with some brilliant throws demonstrating that the magic is still in full force.

Another shot of Manziel to Kirk …

The general consensus amongst attendees was that Manziel was in top physical conditioning, and passing adroitly. Manziel reportedly passed 61-for-64, including one catch that was barely out of bounds. Considering how reluctant most sports pundits are to compliment Manziel we can only surmise that his performance was quite good.

Houston Texans GM, Rick Smith, opined: “It’s a controlled environment, so you expect that he would be (accurate). But the way that the ball came out, and the way that he handled himself was impressive. The leadership that he showed, the accuracy that he showed, all those things — it was a good day for him.”

Gil Brandt, (former VP of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys (1960-’89),senior analyst for NFL.com and SiriusXM NFL Radio host) tweeted that some experts are saying Manziel looked even better than he did in 2014.

Football analyst and scout, Bryan Broadus, weighed in with his thoughts on the Pro Day.  He had this to say about Manziel: “I actually thought he threw the ball better in this workout than he did four years ago at this same place. His ball placement and arm talented showed up well. There were several throws where he was able to lead the receiver into a reception. I thought he might make these receivers have to work for the ball but that wasn’t the case at all. It appears that listening to him talk after the workout that’s he’s in a good place mentally.”

Meanwhile, rumors are flying that the Dallas Cowboys are meeting with Manziel but, if that is the case, it didn’t come from Bryan Broadus (Broadus DOES indeed DENY! lol!)

Afterward, Johnny visited with the news corps and emphasized that this day is for the up and coming rookies, but shared that he was happy to be on hand to help out.

Johnny gets candid and jokes that he is officially retiring from all pro days from here forward.

Watch the whole 6-minute post-Pro Day video from Texas A&M here:

With regards to whether he gets another chance in the NFL, Manziel said, “I’ve blocked it off. I can’t do anything (about whether he gets another chance in the NFL).  I can’t stress about it, all I can do is make sure I’m where I need to be. … All I can do is block it off.”

“If something pops up it pops up. If not and I don’t get the opportunity to go back (to the NFL), I’m going to go play in the CFL. And things are gonna be fine. And one way or another, one day down the line, I’m going to get back to exactly where I want to be.”  — Johnny Manziel

Manziel said he doesn’t have a particular timeline on how long he’ll wait for an NFL opportunity before deciding on the CFL.

“I’ve been focused to get through tomorrow. To get to the first day of practice and get to The Spring League. I think we’ll feel it out as it goes after The Spring League and see. The quarterback market itself has to play itself out. There are still a bunch of guys who are unsigned.”  — Johnny Manziel

The CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats offered Manziel a contract in January, although the team still has negotiating rights. As we have published previously, talks can continue up until training camp up until training camp starts on May 16th.

Johnny Manziel is scheduled to participate in The Spring League. Practices are slated to begin on March 28, and the games will take place on April 7th and April 13th in Round Rock, TX, just north of Austin.

“Being there, doing the film stuff, getting back into the real football stuff — not just coming out and throwing and working out, that’s great, that’s a part of it, that’s step one — then there’s the film, the coverage, there’s everything else that comes with being in the building.  That’s what the spring league gives me a little bit of. A practice setting.”  — Johnny Manziel

It’s a thing of beauty to see Manziel back to his former never-say-die, never-give-up attitude …

“One way or another, one day down the line, I’ll get back to exactly where I want to be because I’m not going to stop until I do.”  — Johnny Manziel
