“It’s Not About the Money”
Manziel is ready to get on an NFL field again, even if that means proving he is there for the game and not the money … or anything else.
Johnny sent out a few tweets on Wednesday where he shared, “I’m reflecting on the past..not dwelling on it. Only way to go for me is up #ComebackSZN. I’ve been down and out for too long. Nothing but positivity on this end. I’ll play again for FREE. It’s not about the money it’s about getting back to doing what I miss and love.”
Manziel also shared some of the things that were happening behind the scenes while he was in Cleveland during a podcast with Joe Thomas and Andrew Hawkins — former CLE Browns teammates.
Johnny shared that most of his decisions (good, bad, indifferent) were made in an attempt to fix what was going on in his personal and professional life. Manziel said: “I was going through some things with just my at-home life. That was my biggest problem that year. It wasn’t the football life. It wasn’t what was going on in the building. I loved getting there early. It was what was going on at home that was causing me so many problems”
Most Manziel fans who have followed Johnny’s career can probably read between the lines on that statement.
Mike Garafalo also recently reported (in a brief video via twitter) that Johnny “sounded really good to me” and via sources close to Johnny, that he “is in touch with multiple NFL head coaches and there have been conversations, and those people around him believe it is a very real possibility that he could return to the NFL, whether before or after his appearance in the Spring League, and I will also tell you this, teams have been informed that Manziel will take $0 guaranteed, minimum salary if need be, and you may not know this … he is still eligible for the practice squad. He would be open to signing a practice squad contract, staying on a team’s practice squad and proving that he is in the right mindset throughout this entire NFL season to get himself back in the right place with a lot of NFL evaluators. And also, think about if you are an NFL team. That’s not a bad guy to have running your scout team, give you some looks as part of your practice team, plus if he is on the right track, who knows?”
Manziel continued to own his past mistakes and take responsibility for what he called “childish, immature decisions” but also continued to express the desire to prove himself, on and off the field, once again.
Manziel is slated to participate in The Spring League which begins later this month. We recommend that fans purchase tickets as soon as possible as seating has been reported as “limited” … also, any fans who are interested in meeting up prior to the games should get in touch with @TxLovesJFF through our FB Page.
