National Signing Day is Nearly Here!
Wednesday, February 7, 2018 is traditionally set aside for the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It normally occurs on the first Wednesday of February.
This year as Johnny Manziel continues the negotiation process with the Hamilton Ontario Ti-Cats, he has is giving a helping hand to his alma mater as they work to secure several much coveted recruits for the 2018 Aggies roster.
Who is “WakeEmUp9” you might ask? For those outside the Twitterverse, this moniker belongs to Leon O’Neal Jr., top notch safety, who has been heavily courted by A&M, as well as Clemson.
At 6’2″ 190 pounds, Leon O’Neal Jr. is one of the highest rated All American safeties in the 2018 recruiting class. O’Neal played for “Cy Springs” (Cypress Springs) in Cypress, TX, northwest of Houston.
Will Manziel’s encouragement help Jimbo Fischer and the Aggies to reel in the four-star? Time will tell! Current Aggies QB, Nick Starkel, as well as Aggies’ linebacker, Tyrel Dodson have shared their entreaties to O’Neal and other potential recruits such as standout receiver, Jaylen Waddle, and Johnny chimed in with his two-cent stamp of approval too.
Jaylen Waddle made a name for himself as a dynamic Wide Receiver for Episcopal High School in Bellaire, TX. He is ranked 39th in the nation and tops out at 5’10” and 167 pounds.
We love Nick Starkel’s dedication to building the best Aggie team he can!
The Aggies have some stiff recruiting competition for Waddle from Alabama, but hopefully this talented four-star recruit will decide to keep things close to home and support the Lone Star State with his prowess on the football field!
Will the gentle pushes from Aggie elites turn the tide for this year’s recruiting class? Sure can’t hurt! The Aggies currently have about ten players already committed, and four others are projected to make the leap shortly. The Ags still have their eye on about four other potential candidates, who they feel will help build upon the legacy that Manziel reinforced during his time at Kyle Field.
Meanwhile Aggie fans, players and alumni like Manziel, wait to see how National Signing Day will unfold for A&M.
Finish Strong Ags!
