Aaron Glenn took a few moments to visit with John Lopez, Dante Hall and Cody Stoots in the Loop on Houston’s SportsRadio 610 a few days ago.
Glenn, is a former Houston Texans cornerback, and is the current defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints. Glenn was also the assistant DB coach for the Browns while Johnny Manziel was on the roster as a QB.
When asked about Johnny Manziel, Glenn said that there were no problems with his performance with the team.
“When Johnny is in the building … outstanding,” Glenn said about Johnny’s work ethic and his ability to connect with teammates while at the Browns’ facilities. “He had this—I don’t know what it is about him … the guys want to be around him. They want to practice for him … You’ve got to watch the offense—When he was in the huddle it was unbelievable.”
For fans who watched Manziel in action at Texas A&M, this is nothing new. But for whatever reason, Manziel was never given the opportunity by the coaching staff to work his magic for the Browns.
Glenn said that he talked with Manziel at various times and he felt like his words always resonated with Johnny.
“You saw those words actually be effective with him in the building,” Glenn said. “He was quiet. The thing is, when I say ‘competing’ this was one of the top guys you would see.”
Manziel’s competitive spirit has been praised in the past by those who have worked closely with him or competed against him. Alabama head coach, Nick Sabin, once said that Johnny was “one of the greatest competitors” he has ever faced.
Aaron Glenn is one of several of Johnny Manziel’s coaches and contemporaries to come out in recent weeks with positive opinions about Johnny, which is strangely at odds with most of what the mainstream media reports.
But then again, the good boy image doesn’t sell near as much advertising.
In other news, it was reported earlier today that Johnny Manziel was the victim of a hit-and-run car accident. Johnny said that he hit his head, but is reporting that he feels OK.
Well wishes to Johnny and his family as always.
