Mr. Robert Hinton, a lawyer for Johnny Manziel, released a statement to the Associated Press on Monday, regarding a pending decision by the Dallas County Grand jury.

Mr. Hinton said that prosecutors have notified him they expect a local grand jury to sign off on a misdemeanor. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has not made a public announcement, but their decision is expected to be made official on Tuesday. Bob Hinton, a longtime Dallas defense attorney, has a close working relationship with the DA’s office.

Brittany Dunn, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney’s office, has continued to decline to confirm media reports.

The Class A misdemeanor carries up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Mr. Hinton, said Johnny Manziel will plead not guilty once the indictment is OFFICIAL, then his attorneys will appear before a judge.

Hinton said that they are not seeking special treatment and that they will request for the judge to set the bond at an appropriate amount. Hinton said he will probably ask the Judge to “set the bond at whatever you think is right. We will produce Johnny and we will pay the bond.”

Hinton declined to go into any other details about Manziel at this time except for that he is still in Los Angeles for the moment.

Hinton went on to say: “Johnny is coming around. He is awfully young, and he is thrust into the maturation process,” Hinton said. “It is unfortunate that these circumstances have presented themselves.”

Dallas police made the characteristic move to pass the Class A misdemeanor domestic violence assault case to a grand jury instead of making an arrest.

Typically, Dallas County’s grand juries hear only felony cases.
