Justice?

A Dallas grand jury is scheduled to consider whether to charge Johnny Manziel after an alleged incident in January 2016, with his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley.

Prosecutors will present the possible case to a grand jury on Thursday. This update was released on Tuesday by Brittany Dunn, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney.

The grand jury could announce their decision on the case as soon as Monday. Police originally presented a misdemeanor assault case to prosecutors. That charge carries a maximum punishment of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Police said they have spoken to Crowley, interviewed several other witnesses and reviewed medical records. But they did not arrest Manziel. Instead, in a rather unexpected move, they asked the district attorney’s office to present the case to a grand jury.

It’s not yet clear whether Manziel or Crowley will testify before the grand jury this week. The district attorney’s office and lawyers for both Manziel and Crowley did not immediately respond to questions.

Crowley is a Fort Worth native who’s father is a well-known lawyer in the DFW area.

It has been presumed that evidence of wrong-doing in this case is perhaps skant, since Manziel was never arrested. Did the Dallas PD choose to send the case to a grand jury to avoid any backlash arising from an unpopular decision on whether or not to arrest the high-profile NFL quarterback?  Time, and evidence (or lack thereof), will certainly tell.

In the meanwhile we continue to support Johnny and as always we send our best wishes to this talented young man.
