In a series of tweets on Saturday afternoon, Jason LaCanfora, of CBS Sports, broke the news, and later confirmed that Manziel will be represented by NFL power broker, Drew Rosenhaus.
Rosenhaus is a legendary agent nicknamed “The Shark” by NFL teams because of his tenacious negotiating methods for his clients.
Rosenhaus is a self admitted workaholic, who is on-call 24×7. He told “60 Minutes”: “I live it, eat it, sleep it, every single minute of the day I think about my work. I love it. It’s my passion. I enjoy it. So it’s not like it’s a job. It’s just–it’s fun. If I get a call in the middle of the night, I have to take it. If I’m with a girl, I have to take it. If I’m in the shower, I have to take it.”
Rosenhaus is considered one of the NFL’s “super agents”, and he represents a diverse array of clients including Rob Gronkowski and LeSean McCoy. In the past he has been quoted as saying “I take pride in my ethics. But I am a relentless, ruthless warrior. I am a hitman. I will move in for the kill and use everything within my power to succeed for my clients.”
Although Drew Rosenhaus does not drink alcohol (or even coffee), he has been known to work out with his players and socialize or party with them as well. “My clients are like my family, like my brothers literally. So when they hurt I hurt and there’s a lot of emotion involved. You know you enjoy the ups and man do you feel the downs.”
He is also something of a mentor and father figure to many players. He says, “I take these guys and encourage them to diet and workout and watch their lifestyle, because that’s the only way they’re going to make it.” It’s safe to say that a player’s success on the field equates to Rosenhaus’s success as well.
Part of his intense work ethic involves having a personal relationship with all of his clients. “I want each one of my clients to feel that they are my only client, that they are my most important client, that I love them.”
Rosenhaus was also rumored to be the inspiration for the character of Bob Sugar played by Jay Mohr in the movie “Jerry Maguire” however, film director, Cameron Crowe, says that the characters of Maguire and Bob Sugar are pure fiction.
What’s not fiction, is Rosenhaus’s uncanny ability to succeed in the NFL, while aiding his clients to achieve the same success. Johnny Manziel fans are thrilled to see Johnny add Drew to his team.
