Is Today the Day?

Is today the day that our Manziel is liberated from Cleveland? One can only hope.

It has been a tumultuous two years for Johnny Manziel, with a coach that has been less than supportive, and a team that has seen its share of hard times.

The NFL Network confirmed yesterday, that the Cleveland Browns will part with Johnny Manziel as originally reported, but they may not do so immediately, and may instead wait a few days while hoping for a better deal.

Browns head of football operations, Sashi Brown, released a statement Feb. 2, which indicated the team expected to waive Manziel once the NFL’s new calendar year started. This would give the Browns the needed salary-cap space to absorb the $4.624 million cap hit.

The new league year will begin at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 9th. The Browns could hold onto Manziel past today if they think they may find a team to assume the remainder of his contract. Another team could also offer a conditional late-round draft pick for him. Or an interested team could deal for him now instead of waiting to claim him off waivers or sign him once he clears waivers.

Whatever happens, it seems like Johnny’s time in Cleveland is coming to a blessed end. Many of his fans have been patiently waiting for this day to arrive, and would love to see Johnny back in Texas, but more than anything we are just hoping that Johnny finds a team and coaching staff that is a right fit for him.
